Never in a million years would I have thought that I’ll be attending the most important red carpet event in fashion: The Met Gala.
Being there was so crazy and surreal. It is by far one of the best experiences I’ve had working in fashion.
The story began when my best friend started working for the events department at Vogue. She told me that they needed someone to freelance and help out with the planning of the event. I didn’t think twice, applied, and was lucky enough to be chosen! It was definitely one of the best experiences ever.
Walking through those clear doors at Vogue magazine was also a dream come true. If you know, you know.
All the details and preparations that go into planning this event are very specific: from the table settings, to the guest list, to checking guests in, etc. We were involved in every last detail. We worked very long hours, but it was definitely worth it; I learned so much working on this.
The day before the event, I had to figure out what to wear, and here comes the second dream come true... they opened the Vogue closet for me and told me I could pick anything I wanted. Unbelievable, such a Devil Wears Prada moment. I ended up choosing an Alberta Ferretti white gown, it was beautiful.
The day of the event I was asked to shadow Lisa Love and Grace Coddington, if you are in fashion you’ll understand what big of a deal this was- I was beyond excited to spend some time with these two fashion icons.
We were standing at the entrance greeting guests, and every single guest would say hi to them right after saying hi to Anna Wintour, who was standing right next to us. Every single “in”, actor, musician, and celebrity was there! From Madonna, to Beyoncé, to Bradley Cooper, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and the list goes on.
I always tell my friends that the more surreal experience was going to the bathroom and waiting in line with all of these celebrities, seeing how they interact with each other; seriously, mind blowing.
The dinner was amazing and then The Weekend performed! We were literally front row dancing with everyone!
I am forever grateful, to have had the opportunity, to have experienced this important event, and will forever remember this day.
